CHEN LERU
Chen Leru is a contemporary artist and writer who graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Her practice moves fluidly between figuration and abstraction, with painting at its core and writing as an extension of her visual narrative.
Her work explores the quiet beauty of everyday life and the passage of time. Through restrained compositions and subtle tonal palettes, she depicts interiors, landscapes, and animal motifs that reflect themes of identity, growth, and female experience. Series such as Black Cat, Interior, and Landscape evoke an atmosphere of stillness and introspection while maintaining a quiet internal tension.
A recurring compositional device in her work is the use of a single dividing line — separating sky and earth, presence and absence, reality and abstraction. This line functions not only as spatial structure but also as a philosophical gesture rooted in Eastern sensibility. Through layered light and nuanced color transitions, Chen creates surfaces that resemble memory: soft yet structurally precise.
Her paintings transform time into a meditative visual language. Her works are held in public and private collections in China, the United States, and Italy.
