WEIWEI CHU

Weiwei Chu (b. 1997, Taipei) lives and works in Paris. She graduated in 2023 from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art et de Design de Nancy with an MFA (DNSEP) with distinction, and earned a Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Université Paris Cité in 2025. Chu’s practice investigates materiality and the temporality of the pictorial gesture. Combining acrylic, oil, pencil, pigments, airbrush and plaster, she builds paintings through swift first layers—often applied by hand and carved into—followed by successive translucent coats. Oscillating between abstraction and figuration, her images unfold like a quiet game of hide-and-seek: forms emerge gradually, inviting sustained attention and a shifting relationship between the canvas, its title, and the viewer.
